Join us on May 18th, in Magalia, California, at the spectacular Meadowbrook Ranch. We are promising a great ride, in beautiful country, with good food, friends, and awards… and it’s all for an amazing cause & to remember a beautiful life!!!
Located at 15424 Skyway Rd, Magalia, CA 95954
RIDE CAMP: Meadowbrook Ranch, owned by the Vandegrift family, is not only beautiful, but historic (& named the “Hilton of Ride Camps” by previous year’s riders)! The Red Barn, where base camp will be, was built back in the 1870s, and photos of Cougar Rock grace its walls (a member of the Vandegrift family completed Tevis back in the 1990s). Trailer parking will be picturesque, with some shady spots, but a bit spread out; first come first serve for the best spots. There is a 75 RIG LIMIT. Ride camp has plenty of natural water – you can even swim with your horse if you like! Camping fee is $20 per rig; trailer-pool & split the camping cost. You will pay the camping fee when you pick up your rider packet at the Red Barn. Dogs are welcome, please make sure they are on leash & well-behaved at all times, and of course, no dogs on the trail course.
TRAIL: Magalia is located just above Paradise, in the mountains above Chico. We have stunning views, tree lined trails, natural water sources — plenty of “Kodak moments” waiting for you (and a photographer on trail to capture some of those moments!). A large portion of the ride will be held on the historic railroad grade, where the Southern Pacific Railroad used to run through the mountains! We do have some gorgeous single track trail, including some trail which follows the flumes, and we have some great footing on soft logging roads, but the majority of the ride will be held on old two-track logging roads and the railroad grade. Water will be provided not only by natural sources, but also by the local Fire Department (we love those men in uniform!). The footing is good in sections, but there are also a lot of rocky & gravel sections too, so hoof protection is HIGHLY recommended. In May, the weather should be pleasant. A large majority of the trail is shaded. New for 2023: The first loop for the 35s and 50s into the out vet check will be the same. At this vet check, 35s can elevator up to the 50 if they wish. The second loop for the 50 mile course is new and takes riders up to the Historic InSkip Pioneer Cemetery. The last loop back to camp for the 35s and 50s is the same as it was in previous years.
AWARDS: TO FINISH IS TO WIN, so everyone completing the 35 & 50 mile distances will receive a completion award. In addition, KC Ride swag will be given as participation awards. There will also be Top Ten awards for the 35 & 50 mile riders. We will have a Best Condition award, chosen by the vets, for both distances. There will also be first junior awards in both distances. Awards will be handed out at the post-ride dinner. No awards will be mailed.
We have a 75 RIG Limit, so please trailer-pool and get those entries in early!
Entries received AFTER May 11th — add a $20 late fee to your entry payment, please!
NO REFUNDS FOR CANCELLATIONS AFTER May 11th. Before May 11th, a full refund minus a $25 administration fee will be issued.
